Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo, sourced to order

The Jumbo is the Royal Oak Extra-Thin, the 39mm reference that traces directly to Gérald Genta's 1972 original. Pinnacle Chrono sources it to order. The 15202ST left production in 2022 and the 16202ST succeeded it, so the two now sit in different markets with different availability. Pinnacle Chrono is an independent dealer in Fort Lauderdale, FL 33334, and is not an authorized Audemars Piguet dealer. Price on request.

Why it is called the Jumbo

The name is a leftover from 1972. At 39mm the original Royal Oak was enormous by the standards of a decade when dress watches sat in the low thirties, and the press called it the Jumbo. Case sizes moved on; the name did not. Today the Jumbo is the smallest Royal Oak in the steel line, which is part of why collectors want it.

What the name specifically denotes is the Extra-Thin: 39mm, ultra-thin movement, applied logo on later references, and the petite tapisserie dial rather than the grande tapisserie used across the rest of the range.

Jumbo references

Reference Production Detail
16202ST 2022 to current 50th anniversary successor, calibre 7121
15202ST 2012 to 2022 The reference most collectors mean. Calibre 2121

5402ST 1972 to 1980s The original A-series Jumbo

Dial colour separates the market on this model more than on most. The blue petite tapisserie is the reference point; other dials trade against it rather than alongside it.

What to check on a Jumbo

The Royal Oak case is the hardest in the industry to refinish correctly. Alternating brushed and polished surfaces meet at defined edges, and a poor refinish blurs them permanently. Bracelet stretch matters because the bracelet is integrated and tapers sharply; wear shows in the links long before it shows in the case. On the 15202ST, confirm the dial and the movement match the production window, since the reference ran a decade with changes along the way.

Pinnacle Chrono authenticates and services every watch before sale, states box-and-papers status per piece, and flags any refinishing found. Membership of Jewelers of America, the Jewelers Board of Trade and the IWJG.

How the sourcing works

  1. Send the reference, the dial you want, and whether the full set is required.

  3. Case finishing, bracelet, dial and papers verified on the individual watch.
  4. A figure quoted against that watch.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Royal Oak Jumbo?

The Jumbo is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin, a 39mm reference descended from the 1972 original. The nickname dates from the launch, when 39mm was unusually large for a dress watch.

Is the 15202ST discontinued?

Yes. Audemars Piguet ended production of the 15202ST in 2022 and introduced the 16202ST as its successor for the model's fiftieth anniversary.

What is the difference between the 15202ST and the 16202ST?

The 16202ST carries a newer movement and revised dial details while keeping the 39mm Extra-Thin format. The 15202ST is the outgoing reference with the long-running calibre 2121, and now trades as a discontinued watch.

Why is the Jumbo difficult to buy at retail?

Audemars Piguet produces the Royal Oak in limited numbers and allocates through its own retail network, where steel references go to established clients. An independent dealer works the secondary market instead, where the constraint is price rather than allocation.

Is Pinnacle Chrono an authorized Audemars Piguet dealer?

No. Pinnacle Chrono is an independent dealer and is not an authorized dealer for Audemars Piguet or any other brand carried.
